Pfizer 4th dose given to 20-plus-year-olds

BY Buddhika Samaraweera The Ministry of Health has stated that anyone over the age of 20 years can now obtain the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine regimen. Speaking to The Morning, Health Ministry’s Communications Director, Public Health Services Deputy Director General, and Disaster Preparedness and Response Division Head Dr. Hemantha Herath said: “The fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine regimen is now available to anyone over the age of 20 years. Anyone who wishes can obtain it from the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) offices and hospitals islandwide.” According to him, the US-German-made Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is being administered as the fourth dose. He, meanwhile, said that it would be better to contact the relevant MOH office or the hospital and arrange a date and time for the fourth dose as there should be at least four persons for a vial of vaccine to be administered. The data available at the Epidemiology Unit as of Sunday (5) reveals that a total of 39,578,707 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Sri Lanka, including 2,898,224 doses of the Covishield vaccine, 23,228,880 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, 314,922 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine, 3,551,828 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, and 1,592,162 doses of the Moderna vaccine, while another 7,992,691 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines have been administered as the third and fourth vaccine doses. According to the Epidemiology Unit, as of 10 a.m. yesterday (6), Sri Lanka has recorded 16,518 Covid-19 deaths while the total number of infections stood at 663,869 of which a total of 646,968 patients have recovered.
