Pfizer vaccines sent to Vavuniya and Mannar
The anti-Covid 19 Pfizer vaccine doses received recently have been sent to be used in the vaccination drives in Mannar and Vavuniya, The Morning learnt.
Out of the 26,000 vaccines of Pfizer received by the country, several vaccines were administered as second doses to individuals who had received the AstraZeneca first doses in the Colombo City limits.
However, the administering of Pfizer vaccines as second doses were in Colombo was suspended on Thursday (8).
Informed sources told The Morning that while a few Pfizer vaccine doses have been allotted to be administered to students who have enrolled to study in universities overseas and require vaccination certification.
The rest of the Pfizer vaccine doses have been sent to Mannar and Vavuniya.
When questioned on the reason for assigning Pfizer jabs only to Mannar and Vavuniya, The Morning was informed that the threat of the Delta variant entering the country was mostly in these two areas and the Pfizer vaccines therefore would be administered to individuals in the area.
