Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilisation, and National Policies Ranil Wickremesinghe said that a roadmap of economic goals will be presented to Parliament soon.  Wickremesinghe had made these remarks at a meeting held on Wednesday (15) evening with a number of Opposition MPs, including Samagi Jana Balawegeya (SJB) MPs Dr. Harsha de Silva, Eran Wickramaratne, Kumara Welgama, Rauff Hakeem, and Rishad Bathiudeen.  According to a statement from the Premier’s office, Treasury and Finance Ministry Secretary Mahinda Siriwardana had presented a breakdown of the current economic crisis and the short-term and medium-term goals of the Government.  “Following the presentation, a discussion was held with the MPs on possible methods that could be used to mitigate the economic disaster. Wickremesinghe explained that a draft roadmap would be presented to Parliament which would allow the MPs to present their ideas before finalising it,” said the statement.  After the discussion, Dr. de Silva posted on Twitter that Wickremesinghe had sought their support to pass a number of fiscal amendments in Parliament.  “I have always been ready to work for Sri Lanka, and yes, I will help,” assured Dr. de Silva.  Sri Lanka’s foreign reserves are at historic low levels, with fuel, electricity, food, and medicine supplies affected. Sri Lanka has looked to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for help and as such, chosen France-based financial services provider Lazard Ltd. and the UK-based law firm Clifford Chance LLP to aid in its debt restructuring efforts. Representatives from these service providers arrived in the country this week while IMF representatives are due to visit Sri Lanka next week.
