PODIE felicitated with IDB Gold and Export Excellence Silver awards

The People’s Organisation for Development Import and Export (PODIE), one of Sri Lanka’s spice exporters, won the gold award in the “Small-scale spices and related products” category at the Industrial Development Board (IDB) Industry Excellence Awards. The awards ceremony was held under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at Waters Edge.

Additionally, PODIE also won the silver award in the “Medium-scale organic spice export category” at the Export Excellence Awards organised by the National Chamber of Exporters.

With a history of over 30 years, PODIE has made contribution to the export of Sri Lankan spices.

PODIE is chaired by Father Damien Fernando, and Tyrell Fernando is the Managing Director. It is not a sole proprietorship and its Board of Directors includes many stakeholders, including farmers as well as employees of the institution. PODIE exports pepper, turmeric, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, vanilla, gourd and red rice to Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and European countries. PODIE exports only organic spices.
