Police indiscriminately arresting SJB members, investigation needs to be conducted: Rehan Jayawickreme

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) members are being arrested indiscriminately by the Sri Lanka Police and it is learnt that there is a trend across the country to arrest innocent civilians who were mere observers of violent incidents, says SJB Youth Vice Chairman Rehan Jayawickreme.

He made this statement via a twitter post today (27).

“I just spoke to Moratuwa MC member Lihini Fernando who told me that @sjbsrilanka members are being arrested indiscriminately by the SL Police. We learn that there is a trend across the country to arrest innocent civilians who were mere observers of violent incidents. We are deeply concerned whether the investigations are conducted in an unbiased manner. Innocent civilians who expressed their dissent in an unharmed manner, should never be arrested, simply because their faces were visible on CCTV footage,” said Jayawickreme.

He further mentioned that the investigations into the May 9th incidents have been delayed unprecedentedly.

“We urge the IGP to direct HQs of all police stations to conduct investigations in a scientific manner and arrest the real perpetrators and not SJB supporters,” he concluded.
