Police probe on drugs: Still trying to recover missing haul
The Police have launched an investigation into the missing drugs produced at the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB), Police Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senaratne said.
He told The Morning that around 8 kg of crystal methamphetamine (“ice” drug) has been missing while they were at the PNB.
“They have extracted 8 kg of ‘ice’ out of the 500 kg seized by the PNB,” he said, adding that the police officers attached to the PNB are currently being questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Accordingly, 15 police officers are being questioned over allegations of selling seized narcotics to drug smugglers.
The Police have, however, launched investigations to recover the remaining narcotics and identify the drug smugglers.
This measure was taken to determine whether certain officers at the PNB had released the narcotics to smugglers upon being seized, according to the Police. (MM)
