The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) urged the Government to reveal the real reasons behind US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s visit to Sri Lanka today (27).
Former JVP Parliamentarian Bimal Rathnayake stressed that the US Secretary of State's visit to Asia was reported by the media in each country.

However, neither the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President, nor the US revealed what is being done in Sri Lanka.
“His visit to Sri Lanka is very problematic at a time when the US presidential election is about five days away and the Covid-19 epidemic is spreading in his country. The Government has a responsibility to reveal to the people what he is doing in Sri Lanka. As it is a government elected by the people, the President has a direct responsibility on this,” he stressed.
“The US and Sri Lanka officially confirmed that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will arrive in Sri Lanka on 27 October (today). Everyone knows that in the last few months, the powerful countries of the world have made significant interventions in Sri Lanka. The people should be made aware of this,” he stressed.
“The current President is also a former American citizen. It is questionable whether he had revoked his citizenship at the time of his election. His name entered the official American register five months after he became President,” he added.
