Prarthana Live in Concert

17 Jan 2019

By Pujanee Galappaththi On 4 January, 2019, Help Circles (Guarantee) Limited, a charitable organisation established in Sri Lanka, launched a commendable project to give Sri Lanka the much needed facility for bone marrow transplants. The successful completion of this project will help some child to live to be an adult. It will give the chance to a young adult to grow into a mature person or an adult to prolong life, giving him/her the opportunity to care for his/her family. The project is named “Prarthana” (The Aspiration). Prarthana was launched with the aim of raising funds to set up a state-of-the-art bone marrow transplant unit at University Hospital Kotelawala Defence University (UHKDU) for the benefit of numerous Sri Lankan patients suffering from cancer and other blood related diseases. The estimated total cost of the project is Rs. 300 Million. Commenting on the project, Director of Help Circles, Niranga Nanayakkara stated: “Over 500 patients including children die each year without access to such treatment as the only transplant unit is located in Nawaloka Hospitals and everyone else in need of its services have to go seek help abroad and we believe we can save thousands of lives with the installation of this unit.” Senior Consultant Oncologist Dr. Jayantha Balawardana and his team of senior doctors are the key persons directing the project. The pioneering fund raising event in aid of the proposed Bone Marrow Transplant Unit would be the “Prarthana Live in Concert” organised by Help Circles. The concert will be held on 26 January 2019 at BMICH from 7pm onwards, and will feature popular musicians such as Victor Rathnayake, TM Jayarathne, Edward Jayakody, Keerthi Pasquel, Annesley Malawana, Mariazelle Goonetilleke,  Rookantha Gunathilaka, Chandralekha Perera, Samitha Mudunkotuwa, Kasun Kalhara, Corrine Almeida, Chithral Somapala and more with music by Shruthi.
