  • Wimal, Nalin Bandara and Mujibur comment on President’s absence in the public eye
Responding to a query by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha about the whereabouts of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his health condition, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna MP and Chief Government Whip Prasanna Ranatunga told Parliament yesterday (4) that the President resides at the President’s House in Fort, and also travels outside the President’s House. “The President is fulfilling his duties very well and efficiently from inside the President’s House, and he also travels outside the President’s House. Due to the security situation in the country certain security measures have been advised by the security forces and implemented.  “However, the President has been discussing with the Prime Minister and other Ministers about the prevailing situation in the country, including last Saturday and Sunday as well. He resides at the President’s House,” Ranatunga said. However, SJB MP Mujibur Rahuman, in response, said that nobody has seen him travel outside. “We have not seen the President travel here and there. All we have seen is the President on television in discussions with officials,” he said. Also speaking in Parliament yesterday (04), National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa said that the “President is not visible to the eye”.  “I think it is more pertinent to explain to the people who are suffering from this crisis, instead of replying to the questions we asked before. The country has a President who is not visible to the eye; not visible to the people,” he said.
