He said that he had proposed to Jayasuriya to be Prime Minister and also urged Sajith Premadasa to be Prime Minister as recently as a few months back.
However both had refused to do so. As a result, he says he decided to give Mahinda Rajapaksa the post.
He defended the decision to remove Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister accusing him of working against national interests.
