President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s name has appeared in the latest Quarterly Publication of of US Federal Register of Individuals Who Have Chosen to Expatriate.
The listing which was published today (8) contains the name of each individual losing United States citizenship.
This confirms, President Rajapaksa is no longer a citizen of the United States of America.
In the months leading to the Presidential election last year, Rajapaksa's US citizenship came under scrutiny as his name did not appear in the US Federal Registry.
However, Rajapaksa said he received official confirmation on 3 May 2019 from the US Government that he was not considered a US citizen, effective 17 April 2019.
