Prez ironically attends COP26 while committing ecocide at home: Shanakiyan

03 Nov 2021

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is talking about climate change at the COP26 in Scotland, whereas he is being alleged to committing ecocide in Sri Lanka says Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) MP Shanakiyan Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam . He made this statement during a media brief today (03). "There is a massive deforestation that is happening in this country, sand miners are running havoc in this country and destroying the eco-system. Wells are drying up due to the excessive mining of sand. Whilst doing all this within the country, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has gone to Scotland and is boasting about how Sri Lanka would be the first country to be 100% organic," Rasamanickam said. He went on to say that Sri Lankans will be facing a massive food-crisis in the next couple of years, whereas the President is talking about going 100% organic. "The man who is alleged to committing to ecocide, is speaking openly about climate change. This is the state of the country thanks to an incapable, incompetent President," Rasamanickam added. Meanwhile, Quoting the Finance Minister's speech at the 5th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) being the first party in the history of Sri Lanka to have an executive President from within the party with a two-thirds majority, Rasamanickam said that the SLPP is the only party in history to become so unpopular that even winning a local council election is bleak. "During the SLPP Anniversary celebrations yesterday, the Minister of Finance very proudly stated that the SLPP is the only party in Sri Lankan history to have an executive Presidency voted for with two-thirds of the majority, with over 7000 members out of the local councils. But I would like to remind the Finance Minister that the SLPP is also the most unpopular party. Even winning a local council election is not possible anymore," Rasamanickam concluded.
