Prez pays a visit to the MILCO factory

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa paid a visit to the MILCO factory this morning where the president observed the production, packing and other procedures at the local milk factory. This was made known via the President's Media Division (PMD) today (25). The National Milk factory that began in 1956, was established as the MILCO Private Ltd in 1986 producing pasteurized milk alone, whereas is now a leading local producer of ice cream, yoghurt and other dairy products. The MILCO company has a workforce of 1500+ employees across four farms in Ambewella, Digana, Polonnaruwa and Narahenpita, the PMD release stated. Additionally, the PMD mentioned that a total of 50,000 liters of milk is used by the MILCO factory to meet its consumer demand. The chairman of the MILCO factory had also mentioned to the President that the main priority of the MILCO company is to ensure that local milk farmers are supported through the purchase of local liquid milk, the PMD stated. Additional participants during the visit included Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage, State Minister of Livestock, Farm Promotion and Dairy and Egg Related Industries D B Herath, Relative Secretaries to the Ministries, MILCO Chairman Renuka Perera and several other employees.
