Production of multi-day and solar power fishing vessels commences

The Minister of State of Fisheries Kanchana Wijesekara has initiated the production of Ceynor multi-day fishing vessels and eco-friendly solar powered vessels, the State Ministry said in a release today (29). "The 59.5-foot multi-day fishing vessel manufactured by CEYNOR under the State Ministry of Fisheries was inspected yesterday before departure on its first voyage. It is fully equipped with all the latest facilities and technology. 100 more of such vessels will be built in future," the Ministry said. According to the release, among the objectives of introducing this vessel were the introduction of advanced technology for the fishing industry thereby ensuring the health and livelihood of the fishermen, reducing post harvest waste, obtaining higher prices for fish products, providing high quality fish stocks to the people and strengthening the export of deep sea fish. The vessel has two fish holders and is equipped with freezer facilities with temperatures of -10 and -20 degrees Celsius. These vessels are expected to be provided under the 50% subsidy scheme. "At the same time, an eco-friendly, solar-powered small transport vessel jointly produced by Ceynor and Genso Pvt will also take place. In the future, work will be done on the production of open craft using such solar and wind technology," the Ministry said.
