Protesters accuse govt. of utilizing pandemic to curtail citizens’ freedom

The Progressive Women’s Collective of the National People’s Power (NPP) staged a protest at the Parliament Roundabout this morning and accused the government of utilizing the pandemic to curtail freedoms of the citizens.

The protest organised for Human Rights Day by the Progressive Women’s Collective and other civil society organizations took place at the Parliament Roundabout at 10.30 am today.

NPP MP Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and civil society activists raised concerns about the Mahara Prison Incident.

The organisations accused the government of failing to provide wide-ranging support to those in need.

The protesters were seen following Covid-19 safety measures.
