Public urged to wear face masks as new variant of virus is airborne

Professor Neelika Malavige of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura today stated that the new variant of the Covid virus detected in Sri Lanka is airborne, and has a more rapid spread compared to the previously detected strains.

She also stated that the effects of the virus being airborne cannot be reversed and therefore the public should make sure not to remove their facemasks outdoors or at offices or shops.

She revealed that the strain is more prominent in the youth in Sri Lanka.
