21 Feb 2022

By Buddhika Samaraweera The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Union (SLRSMU) has claimed that the official website of the Railways Department has not been updated for two years and as a result, a large number of passengers including foreign tourists are inconvenienced. Speaking to The Morning yesterday (20), SLRSMU General Secretary Kasun Chamara claimed that the Railways Department’s website has not been updated for two years. “Almost all the information that is useful to the passengers is mentioned on the official website. Therefore it needs to be updated regularly. However, it has not been updated for two years now. In the past two years, the train running schedules have undergone many changes,” he said.  Speaking further, he claimed that even the trains that are not currently running are shown on the website in the form of trains that are running, adding that foreign tourists are often inconvenienced as they get information about train schedules through the website of the Railways Department. “There have been major changes to train schedules in the recent past with the Covid-19 pandemic. For instance, the website does not currently provide accurate data on cancelled night mail trains. This causes difficulties for many, especially foreign tourists.” When inquired about this last evening, Railways Department General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara stated that instructions have been given to update the website.
