Rajitha granted bail

Former Minister Rajitha Senaratne was granted bail today by the Colombo Additional Magistrate’s Court over the ‘white van’ media briefing held in November.

Senaratne was arrested and produced before Court on the 13th of May after the Colombo High Court rejected the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s bail order on Senaratna.

Subsequently, the former Minister was ordered to be remanded until 27th May by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.

However, when the case was taken up on the 27th of May, the Colombo Chief Magistrate decided to transfer Senaratne’s bail application to Colombo Additional Magistrate’s Court on the request of the Attorney General .

Colombo Additional Magistrate’s Court further remanded former Minister Rajitha Senaratne until 10 June.

In December last year, Senaratne was arrested and remanded over ‘white van’ media briefing held in November.

On 30 December, Colombo Magistrate’s Court ordered the release of Senaratne.

However, the Attorney General filed a revision application on January 08 challenging the decision of the Magistrate’s Court to grant bail to Senaratne.
