Rally ‘against repression’ scheduled for 6 August

By Dinitha Rathnayake Protestors at the “aragalaya” (struggle) have formed a united protestors front to demonstrate against the repression of the Government, and as the first step, a “people's rally” has been scheduled to be held on 6 August at an as yet unspecified venue. According to sources, the venue and the time would be revealed later due to security reasons. Meanwhile, social media activist Pathum Kernar has requested international assistance and attention to stop the suppression of peaceful protestors by the Government. According to his social media page, his associates have written to the Doctors without Borders and Amnesty International about detained activists and Dr. Pathum Kerner. Kerner has been arrested in connection to the public protest that was held near the Parliament on 13 July. Pathum Kerner was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) on 28 July. He has been arrested in connection to the unruly incidents that had occurred during the protest at the entry road to Parliament near the Polduwa Junction. The public had staged a mass public protest against the Government urging for the resignation of then-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
