Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake, who has been sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment for contempt of court, was admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital last week due to a knee injury.

Speaking to The Morning, Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said that Ramanayake was admitted to the hospital four days ago.

“Due to the injuries and pain, he was admitted to the hospital,” said Ekanayake.

According to reports, 60-year-old Ranjan Ramanayake was suffering from a knee and back injury ever since shooting took place for his film One Shot.

Meanwhile, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has decided to record a statement from Ramanayake regarding the findings of the Pandora Papers.

CIABOC Secretary Apsara Caldera told the media that the Commission had taken this decision according to a request made by Ramanayake. Accordingly, he will be summoned before the Commission on a future date to record his statement.

The Commission has also decided to submit to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa an interim report on the investigation into Thirukumar Nadesan, the husband of former Deputy Minister Nirupama Rajapaksa, who was named in the Pandora Papers leak, which revealed the hidden assets of billionaires, the official said.

CIABOC Secretary Caldera further stated that the investigations are currently underway, with the investigation team studying Nadesan’s banking activities as well as various documents submitted by government agencies.
