The Our People’s Power Party (OPPP) believes that Ven. Athuraliya Rathana Thero should be sidelined following the controversy over their National List seat.
Attorney-at-Law and OPPP Galle District candidate at the recent parliamentary election Yalith Wasantha Manahara Wijesurendra said that Rathana Thero would soon be pushed out
“We got the votes from our supporters on the mandate to send Gnanasara Thero to Parliament. So Rathana (Thero) demanding the National List seat goes against this. We have a duty to 65,000-plus supporters who voted for us to respect this mandate.”
He said that Rathana Thero should have taken over the leadership of the party and mentored Gnanasara Thero.
“Rathana Thero should have respected the mandate given to our party. He should have taken over leadership and guided Gnanasara Thero and his role in Parliament. Gnanasara Thero is hot-headed and Rathana Thero’s guidance would have been invaluable.”
