Ratwatte requests alternate date for appearance before HRCSL

Former State Minister of Prison Management and Prisoners' Rehabilitation Lohan Ratwatte has written to the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) in request of an alternative date for his appearance before the HRCSL which was supposed to take place today (28), The Morning learns. While speaking to The Morning, HRCSL Commissioner Dr Nimal Karunasiri confirmed that despite this, Ratwatte had not declined to lodge his statement with the HRCSL. "We are currently investigating the Anuradhapura Prison complex incident. We have requested Hon. Minister Lohan Ratwatte and a few others to lodge a statement at the HRSCL which would help us investigate the matter properly. Minister Ratwatte did not refuse, but requested for an alternate day,” Dr Karunasiri told The Morning. Dr Karunasiri went on to mention that the Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya lodged his statement earlier today (28).
