Deputy General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP), Ruwan Wijewardene says he is ready to take over the party leadership.
Wijewardene made this observation during a public meeting in Anuradhapura today.
He said that there are several party members who have already staked a claim for party leadership.
"I kept silent. But during the past few days there have been so many party members from across the country asking me to take over the party leadership," he said.
Wijewardene then added that he is prepared to take over the party leadership.
