Samarawickrema to fill vacant seat of demised Athukorala

An Extraordinary Gazette has been issued on appointment of Jagath Samarawickrema as Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP from the Polonnaruwa district to fill the vacant seat in Parliament following the death of former SLPP MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala

Athukorala passed away last week during the unrest that happened on the 9th of May 2022.

Reports suggest he committed suicide, however an investigation is still ongoing.
