SB’s guards arrested

Two police guards who had opened fire at a group of individuals in Ginigathhena yesterday for allegedly obstructing the convoy of MP S.B. Dissanayake have been apprehended. Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ruwan Gunasekara today said the pistols that were used to open fire were seized during the arrest. Gunasekara said the two suspects will be produced before the Hatton Magistrate’s Court today (07) for an identity parade. Following the shooting, two persons were admitted to the Theligama Hospital before being transferred to the Karawanella Hospital and Ginigathhena Hospital for further treatment. Gunasekara said preliminary investigations have revealed that the shooting was not politically motivated. Meanwhile, SLPP presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa in response to the incident said he was deeply saddened by the alleged incident of ex-Min SB Dissanayake’s security personnel. "If true, I hope authorities will take immediate action.....I shall not hesitate to take stern action irrespective of rank, title or position" He said his promise to uphold Law & Order remains a priority.
