SC grants leave to proceed with FR against Sirisena for pardoning Royal Park convict

The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka granted leave to proceed with the Fundamental Rights petition against former President Maithripala Sirisena’s decision to grant Royal Park convict Jude Jayamaha a presidential pardon today (23).

Jayamaha was convicted of murder after strangling his girlfriend’s sister Yvonne Johnson in 2005 at her apartment complex, and was sentenced to death.

Sirisena granted a presidential pardon to Jayamaha just before leaving office in 2019.
