SC to take up only urgent matters from 6 May to 14 May

On the direction of His Lordship the Chief Justice, the Registrar of the Supreme Court has stated that Only ‘urgent’ matters will be taken up in open court for hearing from 6th to 14th May 2021. If there are any urgent matters among already scheduled applications or appeals which should be taken up in open court, a Motion containing an application to such effect may be filed ideally before the scheduled date or if that is not possible, before 9.30 AM on the scheduled date, having given notice of such Motion to the registered Attorney of the other party (parties). The application contained in such Motion will be considered by the presiding justice and a decision will be taken thereon. Accordingly, Such urgent matters will be taken up in the designated court commencing at 11.00 AM and Litigants will not be permitted to enter the Superior Courts Complex, unless permission has been obtained from the relevant presiding justice. All Attorneys-at-Law are requested to fully adhere to health guidelines issued by health authorities relating to the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 are are requested to enter court rooms only when it is reasonably likely that their respective application or appeal is about to be taken up. The new dates for matters that are scheduled from 6th to 13th May 2021 will be notified later. The Registry has stated that they will receive all new filings, motions, written submissions and other documents from 6th of May to 31st May between 9.30 AM and 1.00 PM, However, the public is informed that as only a minimum number of staff are permitted to report for work, functioning of the Registry is restricted.
