The south western and southern coastlines were battered by surging sea waves last afternoon and evening (2), following a red alert issued by the Meteorological Department on strong winds and rough seas due to an active south western monsoon condition.
Sea waves that battered the coast along Galle, Kahawa, Seenigama, and Hikkaduwa disrupted vehicular traffic along the coastal roads and caused panic among residents.
The Meteorological Department has advised against venturing out for fishing and naval activities in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Hambantota via Galle until 5.30 p.m. today (3).
