Seventeen arrested in connection with the 15-year-old girl sold online

Seventeen people have been arrested for abusing a 15-year-old girl who was sold online. Police Media Spokesman, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said that the arrests were made following investigations by the Children and Women's Bureau. The police spokesman said that a monk was also among those arrested. A person was arrested by the Mount Lavinia Police recently in connection with the abuse of a girl. He was also charged with sexually assaulting her over the internet and was remanded after being produced in Moratuwa Magistrate's Court. The police spokesman said that the girl had been sold for Rs. 10,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 30,000 each for about three months. Among those arrested were the girl's mother, the mistress of the person who sold the girl, two three-wheeler and car drivers who took the girl to each location and the person who created the advertisement for selling the girl. The police spokesman said that investigations are currently underway into the details of about 20 other persons who sexually abused the girl following her interrogation.
