Shut down TV productions: Tele Makers’ Guild

BY Dinitha Rathnayake The Tele Makers’ Guild (TMG) has urged the temporary suspension of all television (TV) productions, citing the risk posed by the rapid spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Releasing a statement in this regard, the TMG stated that all thespians and production and technical staff are at risk due to the pandemic situation, and that therefore, television productions should be stopped as soon as possible. “We cannot take the risk of losing lives. We need to consider this as a serious issue.” All producers, directors, production houses, and television channels associated with television productions should take into consideration our request, noted the TMG. “We need to understand the value of those artistes who are in this field. We appreciate producers like Ananda Abeynayake who have taken steps to suspend their productions temporarily.” Many thespians have tested positive for Covid-19 recently and they shared their experiences on social media, advising the public to take proper health precautions. Actress Shalani Tharaka shared her thoughts on Facebook, saying: “During the filming of a teledrama, I was identified as a Covid-19-positive patient following a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test done upon experiencing related symptoms. I have taken both doses of the Sinopharm vaccine. Therefore, don’t underestimate the gravity of the situation. Don’t hide when experiencing even the slightest symptom. Don’t be a carrier of the disease.” Meanwhile, actress Nayanathara Wickramarachchi has also been admitted to a private hospital in Colombo in a critical condition after contracting Covid-19. She urged those who had come into close contact with her to get themselves tested. A team of 21 teledrama artistes who had lodged in a hotel in Teldeniya and the staff of the said hotel were quarantined in the hotel last year, when a teledrama actor among them had tested positive for Covid-19. Sriyani Amarasena and Vishwa Kodikara were also among the artistes who got infected with Covid-19 recently.
