SJB members make contradictory statements

Two parliamentarians representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) led by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today (27) made contradictory statements in the House regarding MP C.V. Wigneswaran’s maiden speech in the ninth parliament.

SJB MP Manusha Nanayakkara, who last week raised objection to a statement made by Wigneswaran and called for certain lines in the speech to be expunged from the parliament hansard, once again raised the issue and called for the removal of the comments.

In his maiden speech, Wigneswaran noted the need to recognize the rights of the Tamil people and their right to self determination.

Nanayakkara last week called for these comments to be removed from the hansard and once again raised the issue today saying his request has not been addressed.

However, SJB alliance member, MP Rauff Hakeem said in parliament that every Member of Parliament should respect the freedom of speech.
