SJB’s meeting with Catholic Bishops draws attention of CID

Following a special discussion between the Opposition MPs and Catholic Bishops which took place on April 26 on the subject of the Easter Sunday investigations, the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has requested the Executive Director of the Centre for Society & Religion (CSR) for information regarding a confidential report that the Opposition MPs submitted to the Catholic Bishops.

The meeting which took place came after Chief Organiser of the Opposition Lakshman Kiriella requested the Bishop’s Conference of Sri Lanka Chairman Rt. Rev. Dr. Winston Fernando to allow some key Opposition leaders to present facts related to the attacks and the subsequent responses of the present Government.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the Director of the CID has made this request to provide information with respect to the report as it may contain information that will help the CID and TID with their ongoing joint investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks.

“If the report contains valuable evidence and salient points in respect to the perpetrators of the attacks, that information will be required to conduct further investigation, that is why the Director of the CID has humbly requested the Executive Director of the CSR for this information,” he said.

Chief Organiser of the Opposition Kiriella and MPs Patali Champika Ranawaka, Dr. Harsha de Silva, Eran Wickramaratne, Manusha Nanayakkara, and Nalin Bandara were present at the meeting with the Catholic Fathers which took place on April 26.
