SLMA requests senior citizens to get vaccinated before the festive season

07 Dec 2021

The Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA), along with the inter-collegiate committee has advised citizens above the age of 60 years to get vaccinated with the Pfizer booster vaccine prior to the festive season. This was made known via a statement issued today (07) by the SLMA. The statement mentions that senior citizens should get vaccinated as a matter of priority, adding that those who have not completed the first 2 doses of the vaccine as well should get inoculated immediately. Additionally, the SLMA recommends that frontline workers must also ensure that they are fully vaccinated, along with the booster dose. "The recommendations by the SLMA is based on the higher risk of infection with gatherings during the festive and New Year season and the possible transmission of the Omicron variant of the covid-19," the statement concludes.
