04 Jan 2021

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has requested the Tourism Ministry for detailed itineraries of the excursions of Ukrainian tourists in Sri Lanka. SLTDA Chairman Kimarli Fernando has sent a letter to Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga in this regard on Saturday. The letter stated that it was agreed upon during a Task Force Meeting that SLTDA has to be provided with itineraries in advance, including details of the drivers and the guides who would be involved in these excursions to be relayed to the health authorities for screening and quarantine purposes. The SLTDA brought to attention that its Director General has still not received said itineraries and has been trying to receive this information to no avail. “However, to this moment, we have not received any information from the promoter of this project, nor the Travel Agents concerned. We are gravely concerned and seek your urgent intervention as when we requested information, it was revealed that he was working with the Presidential Task Force,” it said. The SLTDA further expressed its hope that the Presidential and COVID Task Forces have been informed of this and necessary protocols are being followed. “It is expected that you reveal all details of these excursions to the SLTDA in order to keep the Ministry of Health and the COVID Task Force informed,” the letter concluded.
