Sports Minister obstructs SLC officials’ trip Down Under

23 Oct 2022

By Ranjika Perera Eighteen Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials have reportedly lined up to travel Down Under at the expense of the Cricket Board to witness the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.  A letter requesting permission for the 18 officials from SLC was sent to Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe last month. However, in the absence of the Minister, the Sports Secretary has intervened and only approved travel for eight officials.  These officials have requested business class tickets, free passes for the matches, and a daily allowance for their expenses. The Minister had requested the National Sports Council to look into any viable reason for these officials to make the trip at such an expense.  The approved list of officials are as follows: Shammi Silva (President), Mohan de Silva (General Secretary), Ashley de Silva (CEO), Jayantha Dharmadasa (Vice President), Raveen Wickramaratne (Vice President), Lasantha Wickramasinghe (Treasurer), Sujeewa Godaliyadda (Vice Treasurer), and Krishantha Kapuwatte (Assistant Secretary).
