St. Thomas’ College, Matale booked a berth in the semi-finals of the Under-19 Division-II Inter-school Limited-over Cricket Tournament as they beat Taxila Central, Horana by 18 runs in the tournament’s quarter-final played at Maliyadeva College grounds in Kurunegala on Wednesday (21).
Sent in to bat first, the Matale Thomians made 154 in their allotted 50 overs with Skipper N. Wijetunga leading the way with a top score of 52 runs. Taxila Central in their turn were bowled out for 136 in the 46th over of their innings. That was despite two fighting knocks from the duo, Adeepa Jayalath (51) and Anjana Jayalath (30 not out)
St. Thomas’, Matale will now meet Panadura Royal in the U-19 Div.-II semi-finals scheduled for tomorrow (24) at De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa.
