Today (10) has been declared a holiday for all banks and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE). The decision has been taken in lieu of the bank holiday falling on Sunday (9).
Last week saw significant bloodletting in the Colombo bourse, as the speculative September run came to an end with the collapse of Lanka IOC PLC (LIOC) and Expolanka Holdings PLC (EXPO) prices in the market.
EXPO is the largest listed company on the CSE, with a market capitalisation of Rs. 330 billion. The market share price of EXPO, which was around Rs. 220, had fallen to around Rs. 160 by the end of the previous week as the market finally adjusted to the falling freight rates.
