A group of backbench MPs of the governing Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) last week visited Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera to discuss concerns raised by the Thera regarding certain actions of the Government.The group of parliamentarians led by MP Tissa Kuttiarachchi had explained to Ven. Ananda Thera that his (the Thera’s) support was very important to the Government. Kuttiarachchi had told the Thera during the discussion that Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa, after hearing concerns raised by many over the proposed surcharge on the Employers’ Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF), had agreed to reverse the proposal.The SLPP backbenchers had reiterated that as one of the key supporters of the governing party, Ven. Ananda Thera should express his concerns to be addressed.
