Sunny Side Up: G.L.’s predicament

Governing Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Founding Chairman Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris was reportedly displeased the past few days.

It is learnt that the Minister was feeling slighted by the actions of his Ministry Secretary.

However, Prof. Peiris’ displeasure had surfaced when a member of his personal staff was removed from the government delegation that had visited Scotland with the President, it is learnt.

Minister Prof. Peiris had left for London prior to the President’s arrival in Scotland to make the necessary arrangements for the visit. The Minister had taken along a member of his personal staff to assist him with the work in the UK.

However, when it was time for Prof. Peiris to travel from London to Scotland to be part of the President’s delegation and to attend the summit, he had found out that the member from his personal staff who had accompanied him was not included in the official delegation to Glasgow.

According to a news report published in Sinhala media last week, the name of Minister Prof. Peiris’ personal staff member had been removed by Foreign Ministry Secretary Jayanath Colombage.

The Minister, it is learnt, had told several of his confidants that the Ministry Secretary, who had stated that personal staff members were not allowed to be part of official delegations, had taken one of his personal staff members on a recent visit to Moscow.
