Sunny Side Up: Message to Ranjan

04 Sep 2021

Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake, who is serving a four-year rigorous imprisonment term, has been informed that he has to agree to a condition in order to be granted a presidential pardon. State Minister of Prison Management and Prisoners’ Rehabilitation Lohan Ratwatte had reportedly said that Ramanayake has to admit his mistake and tender an apology to all judges. According to Ratwatte, the President could consider a presidential pardon for the former MP if Ramanayake tenders such an apology. Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa recently requested a presidential pardon for Ramanayake, while a group of artists had also requested the President to pardon the former MP on an earlier occasion.
