Sri Lankan High Commissioner-designate to India Milinda Moragoda assumed duties after nearly a year since his appointment.
Moragoda was appointed to the post in August 2020, but did not assume office till last month.
Issuing a statement, the High Commission of Sri Lanka in India stated that Moragoda, who was appointed with the cabinet rank, assumed duties at a simple ceremony held at the High Commission on 30 August.
The staff of the High Commission had welcomed Moragoda and his wife, Jennifer Moragoda, by presenting the traditional sheaf of betel leaves.
Moragoda had assumed duties while seth pirith was chanted by the Maha Sangha via Zoom.
After assuming duties, the High Commissioner-designate addressed the staff of the High Commission, outlining the importance of working as one team to advance the interests of Sri Lanka and to take Sri Lanka-India relations to new heights.
