Sunny Side Up: Priyankara’s request to Namal

State Minister for Foreign Employment Promotion Priyankara Jayaratne, who represents the Puttalam District, had last week written to Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa to secure stocks of Covid-19 vaccines to be administered in his constituency.

The State Minister had requested the Sports Minister to help secure a stock of 100,000 Covid-19 vaccines urgently needed for the District.

Jayaratne, on Thursday (12), had noted that many people in the Puttalam District have sought his intervention to secure Covid-19 vaccines since the vaccination programme is progressing at a very low rate.

The State Minister had explained that the difficulties in accessing the vaccines and the slow process of the vaccination programme had resulted in many people in the Puttalam District being infected with Covid-19.

Jayaratne had pleaded with Rajapaksa to consider the present plight of the people in the Puttalam District on humanitarian grounds.

Meanwhile, there was a unique protest held at the Puttalam Town last week.

The protest was organised by the people in Puttalam over what they claimed was a slow allocation of Covid-19 vaccinations in the area.

The public had organised several mannequins in the centre of the Puttalam Town attaching placards to them protesting against the lack of vaccines allocated to Puttalam.

According to several residents in Puttalam, the unique protest was organised in line with the Covid-19 health guidelines that prohibit public gatherings.
