The use of urea under current conditions could result in a kilogramme of rice being sold at around Rs. 500 in the local market, according to State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa.Addressing a recent event, Rajapaksa had said that urea that was purchased at $ 278 per tonne had now increased to $ 1,282 per tonne.He had observed that if urea was imported at such prices for paddy cultivation, the price of a kg of rice would cost over Rs. 500.A pack of 25 kg of urea is currently sold at over Rs. 9,000 in the local market.
