Sunny Side Up: Water Day without Water Minister

The International Water Day was observed last Tuesday (22) and an event to mark this occasion was held at Temple Trees attended by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

However, a notable absentee at the official event was the Cabinet Minister in-charge of the water portfolio, Vasudeva Nanayakkara. The event was instead headed by State Minister Sanath Nishantha.

Nanayakkara announced earlier this month that he would boycott Cabinet meetings and would not carry out ministerial duties and that he could be sacked by the President like his colleagues – ousted Ministers Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila.
