Dinesh Priyantha Herath, who won a gold medal at the Paralympics in Japan, is affiliated to the Gajaba Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army, of which President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne have both been members. Army Commander Gen. General Shavendra Silva is also a member.
“He (Herath) met me before leaving for Japan and vowed he will somehow bring home the gold medal. He represents the Gajaba Regiment, and myself, His Excellency the President, and the Defence Secretary are all officers from this regiment,” the Army Commander stated while congratulating the gold medal-winner.
