A suspect connected to the shooting incident at Piliyandala in May 9, 2017 has been arrested in India, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said today. A team of Police Narcotic Bureau led by IP Neomal Rangajeewa came under attack during a raid. One police constable was shot dead while IP Rangajeewa and another officer were critically injured. Three children who were passing by were also injured and a 11-year-old succumbed to gunshot injuries after being admitted to the hospital. DIG Rohana said Western Province South Investigation Unit launched investigations into the incidents to trace several suspects. "It was revealed one Mohamad Mahil Mohamed Nawaz is one of the persons collected all information about officers and supported the crime. He has subsequently fled to India and media reported that he was arrested in India couple of weeks ago. "Yesterday, the Indian Interpol Unit informed that he was arrested by the Madurai narcotic bureau. We will take action to bring the suspect to Sri Lanka, " he said.
