Tamil Nadu Chief Minister backs citizenship for Lankan refugees

Stalin has assured Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) Vice Chairman Senthil Thondaman that he would endorse citizenship status for Sri Lankan refugees in Tamil Nadu during a phone discussion on 29 August. Speaking with The Morning, Thondaman said that during the phone conversation, Stalin had discussed the citizenship matter and stated that he would recommend to the Central Government to provide citizenship for Sri Lankan refugees in Tamil Nadu. “Stalin has already introduced several developments concerning Sri Lankan refugees,” Thondaman added. These include a financial package to assist the refugees and renaming the refugee camps as rehabilitation camps. Thondaman also said that Stalin had inquired about the wellbeing and development of the estate sector community in Sri Lanka.
