Tear gas fired on IUSF protest

A tense situation was reported at the Polduwa Junction near Diyatha Uyana in Battaramulla yesterday (5) evening amidst a protest march against the Government and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, organised by the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF), with Police firing tear gas to disperse the protestors, who attempted to advance through the barricade set up at the junction to march towards Parliament.

The demonstration commenced in front of the Sri Jayewardenepura University and proceeded towards Rajagiriya on the High-Level Road through Nugegoda Junction.

Heavy traffic was also reported at the Nugegoda junction this evening as a result of the protest march.
