Traffic fines to be paid online

A meeting was held to discuss the use of digital technology to enable traffic fines to be paid immediately online through a payment gateway. The meeting was held today (16) at the Ministry of Justice. During the meeting, a special committee was appointed to overlook and implement the online payment facility, together with the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) and Ceylon CLEAR. The newly appointed committee is expected to submit its recommendations by January 2022, after considering the new legislation and mode of which the payment will be processed. Additionally, it was discussed that this new mode of payment should first be implemented in expressways and based on the results, will be then used island wide. The meeting was attended by Minister of Justice Ali Sabry , Minister of Youth & Sports, Minister of Development Co-ordination and Monitoring and State Minister of Digital Technology and Entrepreneur Development Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Public Security Retired Rear-Admiral Dr Sarath Weerasekera, Minister of Transport Pavithra Wanniarachchi, and the Attorney General Sanjaya Rajaratnam.
