The State Pharmaceutical Corporation (SPC) has begun production of Tramadol and Levothyroxine. The former is used as a pain killer and the latter is used to treat Thyroxin deficiency.
The drugs were released to the market alongside the presence of Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa yesterday (06).
Rajapaksa stated that only 20 percent of the drugs used in Sri Lanka are currently manufactured locally and the Government intends to increase it to 50 per cent.
Further, he noted that this is an example of the government’s effort to increase domestic production which will in turn save foreign exchange.
